Yesterday Beyond Meats announced they are reintroducing their meatless chicken tenders at restaurants. For those like me who were unaware, Beyond Meats had introduced this product a couple of years ago but took it off the market to fine tune it.
A lot of vegans or plant based folks are probably excited about this based on the success of the Beyond Burger. I understand people choose to become vegan for a variety of reasons and I have no issue with anyone or their reason. For vegans that are following the diet to eat healthier, however, I am not sure how these products can have a place in their diet.
I am vegan because I want to have a healthy diet I do not understand how one can look at the ingredient list (below) and say this is a healthy food. That being said, there is obviously a market for this product, just look at the revenue of Beyond Meats ($BYND). I do indulge in a Beyond Burger here and there but when I do I cringe at what I am eating. I am not sure how this can be described as being better for you than eating an actual real beef burger.
Again, people are vegan for different reasons and I respect that, but for folks doing this primarily for health reasons I just can’t agree with making this a regular part of your diet.
