Plant Based Diet?

Have you seen the documentary Game Changers? What did you think? I recently watched the movie and came away with a new vision on how I see the plant based diet.

Was the movie flawed? Certainly. Much of the evidence presented was through observational studies or anecdotal. Does that make the information false? Certainly not, but at the same time you need to question the validity of it. This is no different from most things in life. Therefore, I need to clarify that I really don’t have a horse on either side of this debate.

My interest in plant based is whether it can improve my health and performance. To me, the only way to really know is to test it on myself. Therefore, I started my plant based diet yesterday (10/27/2020).

I currently have a fairly healthy diet. I am not eating fast food or drinking soda. My primary meat source is chicken and I eat my fair share of fruits and vegetables. Given my current diet, I do not expect much impact on weight, but perhaps a small loss in weight.

Performance and recovery will be where I am hoping to see the most improvement. Given the lack of races in this time of COVID this won’t be super easy to gauge so like the movie it will be more anecdotal.

The hardest part for me will be the meal planning. I am a picky eater and definitely steer towards meats over vegetables so this will be a challenge. What will make it easier is my wife is partaking as well so the temptation to give in at dinner time won’t be there. Dinner number one was a Tex-Mex salad that was delicious. If you have recipes or ideas to help me please pass them on.

My goal is to update you on a fairly regular basis on how this goes. I look forward to any tips to help me through this.
